I've wanted to catch pics of this thing for a long time and finally ran across it in the parking garage on the way to F&F 7 last night. It's been around here for awhile, and this is only the latest in a long line of previous permutations. As I recall, the first thing he did was chop the roof, and it's gotten crazier ever since. A sticker on the back says "58-166mpg." I feel like Torch would drive this, despite his admitted hatred of hypermiling. I also feel like it should have a Saturn badge. Anyway, behold its unmitigated glory:

Why even bother with a rear window? I guarantee you can't see shit out of there.
And how on earth is that thing road legal?

Appears to be based on 3rd gen Civic.

Yeah, the rear window is just for show. And it's legal because in CA we don't have State inspections. As long as it passes smog every 2 years & doesn't get you pulled over you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Nope, it was a Geo Metro.

The taillight panel and the door handles fooled me.

There's so little of it left that it could definitely be hard to ID if you haven't seen it throughout its life. For all I know it's got parts from other cars too.

I talked to this guy once, he said he gets 100mpg on the highway if he is doing 44mph... So in reality and driving safe speeds he never gets the 100mph. Such a weird car and odd guy. I was up at a shop in Paso and there is another guy that competes with him with a different car. Weird....

If the seams were welded correctly and the whole thing painted, it would actually look pretty decent - almost like a 1930s streamlined body. As it is, it seems like a high price to pay just to save like $2 per day on gas.

This is pretty cool. I'd like to do some of these mods, but not quite as extream.
Maybe a kammback, flat bottom, smooth out the grille, pizza pans for smooth wheel covers, & some chloroplast for side skirts.

Gotta say, with that much effort, he should keep on going!
